Geocaching as Team Building
Geocaching is a great way to get teams together so they can work on a common goal. The purpose of team building is to build trust in the team and open lines of communication. Geocaching can help with that.
Here are some hints to help make your team building exercise a success:
- Share GPSr between 2-3 participants per GPSr.
- Find geocaches that require the solving of a puzzle of some sort, ideally something that can be done in the field. Although and alternative is to solve the puzzle in advance and “test” the solution in the field.
- Look for geocaches that can be challenging physically but don’t require participants to be in great shape. Ten kilometer hikes are not suited for corporate team building exercises. Geocaches that involve a bit of climbing or that need two players to access are examples of caches that foster team spirit.
- Use multiple caches or multi-stage caches and assign teams to different parts of the exercise. The teams can solve part on their own but must come together to solve the final as a group.
Our consultants can prepare and deliver a formal program if required. Visit our Team Building page for more details.
